Building Inspector
Posted: 05/21/2026AccuForce is seeking a detail-oriented Building Inspector to perform technical inspections on residential construction and remodeling projects. In this role, you will ensure compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and zoning codes, helping to maintain safe structures and vibrant communities.
Details:
Location: Kingsport, TNPay: $35/hour
Schedule: Monday - Friday (8am - 5pm)
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect Construction: Evaluate residential projects at various stages (foundations, framing, plumbing, electrical, gas) for compliance with local, state, and federal codes.
- Verify Zoning Compliance: Check structure locations against approved plans to ensure correct setbacks and zoning alignment.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect materials and workmanship to guarantee acceptable safety standards.
- Maintain Documentation: Keep accurate records and files of project statuses and inspection results.
- Collaborate: Refer complex code interpretations to the Building Manager and build positive relationships with contractors, city staff, and the public.
Qualifications & Skills
- Strong knowledge of building construction principles, safety standards, and local/state/federal codes.
- Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications accurately.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with contractors and citizens.
- Adaptability to work in fast-paced environments with changing priorities and frequent exposure to active construction sites and varying weather conditions.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Option 1: High School Diploma (or equivalent) + 3 years of full-time construction experience in a leadership or oversight role (e.g., Foreman, Superintendent, Inspector).
- Option 2: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Building Construction, Engineering, or a related field + 1 year of the full-time leadership/inspection experience noted above.
- Note: Education cannot be substituted for required State of Tennessee certifications.
Licenses & Certifications
Required:
- Valid Driver’s License (TN or VA).
- Within 1 Year of Hire: ICC Certification as a Residential Building, Plumbing, and Mechanical Inspector (per T.C.A. requirements).
- Within 2 Years of Hire: ICC Certification as a Commercial Building, Plumbing, and Mechanical Inspector.
Preferred:
- ICC Certification as a Residential Energy Code Inspector or Accessibility Inspector.
- FEMA Floodplain Management Certification.
