Symphony of the Mountains: Ageless Masterworks

Kingsport, TN – Symphony of the Mountains combines the best of the present with the best of the future at our “Ageless Masterworks” on Saturday, March 4 at 7:30pm at the Toy F. Reid Eastman Employee Center. Repertoire for this multi-generational masterpiece includes • Schubert’s “Symphony No. 4, D. 417, C Minor (Tragic) o Franz Schubert was one of the most outstanding child prodigies the musical world has ever seen. By the time of his death at age 31, he had written over 1,000 pieces. o Schubert subtitled his 4th Symphony “Tragic” and, while the introduction to the first movement does have a sense of gloom and tragedy about it, the rest of the symphony contains entrancing melodies and animated movements. • Vaughan William’s “Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis” with Symphony of the Mountains Youth Orchestra strings o This performance for double string orchestra features both Symphony of the Mountains and Symphony of the Mountains Youth Orchestra strings to create a glorious sound while showcasing the best musicians of the present and the future. • Tchaikovsky’s “Concerto for Violin Op. 35, D Major” with Symphony of the Mountains Associate Concertmaster and Elizabeth Harper Vaughn Competition Winner, Cameron Lugo. o Eighteen-year-old violinist Cameron F. Lugo frequently performs throughout the Mountain Empire and beyond. His diverse musical training and accomplishments provide him the capability as a violin soloist, orchestral player, chamber musician, and composer. His original composition, “How Excellent Is Thy Name”, was performed by Symphony of the Mountains in 2013. Since his solo debut in 2011 with the Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra at the historic Tennessee Theater, Cameron’s solo performances include appearances with the Ottawa (Kansas) Chamber Symphony and the Symphony of the Mountains Youth Orchestra. Cameron is the recipient of numerous awards as a violinist, the most recent of which is the First Place Award at the 2015 Enkor International Violin and Piano Competition. Additionally, he has been named a national finalist and prizewinner in several notable competitions including the Elizabeth Harper Vaughn Concerto Competition, the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) String Performance Competition, and the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) Stillman-Kelly Competition. Cameron is grateful to have been a three-time winner of the Bristol Music Club Scholarship Auditions.
