The City of Kingsport's Christmas Tree Lighting is set for Saturday, December 5, 2015 in Downtown Kingsport. Festivities will kick off around 5pm on Broad Street in front of the library and culminate with the Tree Lighting at 7pm in church circle. This year will offer some brand new events along with traditional ones. The schedule of events is as follows: To kick off the festivities The Sullivan South Band will march down Broad Street to Church Circle. Horse and carriage rides will be available at the corner of Broad and Market and will run to Church Circle and back from 5pm to 7pm. TriSummit Bank will be hosting a variety of events for the kids, which includes having photos with Santa, making a special Christmas ornament and having their face painted from 5pm - 7pm. The Sevier Middle School Choir will serenade us with Christmas songs during this special night for children of all ages. Santa?s helpers will be on hand to escort you from TriSummit Candy Lane to Regions Gingerbread Land. The Gingerbread Houses will once again be on display in the lobby of Regions Bank. An arts and craft project will be available for the children and photos with Elf on the Shelf and the Gingerbread Man will run from 5pm to 7pm. New this year is a firepit for roasting s'mores and story time. We will have warming benches to keep you toasty while you're roasting your s'more and enjoying story time provided by United We Read of TUWOGK! This new addition will be set up on Broad Street in between TriSummit Bank and Region?s Bank. The firepit is sponsored by Nathan and Jamie Jackson with Jackson Jones Construction. If you're looking to surprise your children this year with a new pet, look no further. The SBK animal shelter will be on hand in Glen Bruce Park with their '12 Dogs of Christmas Adopt-A-Pet' program. Come see these sweet little four legged fury friends looking for a home for the holidays! Food trucks will be set up on Broad Street starting at 5pm and will offer something for everyone; vendors include: TK's dogs, Shabby Allies Funnel Cakes, Kettle Korn and Slammin Sammys Food Truck. Special Music with area choirs will begin around 5:00 pm at Regions Bank, TriSummit Bank and in Church Circle. The Mayor of Kingsport, John Clark, will lead the countdown to the lighting of the Christmas tree right at 7pm. A community prayer and ringing of the church bells will coincide. Also, new this year, is a 'Charlie Brown Christmas' movie that will be showing at 7:15pm in Glen Bruce Park. This event is possible thanks to Mafair United Methodist Church.
