              Description

Professional Development for Women YWCA Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia will host their second EMERGE Women’s Professional Development Workshop on September 28. Incepted in 2015, the female focused, expert led workshop series is geared to empower women at all levels of their career. The fall session will be held at the Kingsport Center for Higher Education from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The half-day workshop for professional women will feature three accomplished presenters with a diverse set of expertise in creating your professional brand, building confidence through your identities, and developing a productive work environment through collaboration. Wynne Tyree is the founder and president of Smarty Pants, an international market research and strategic consulting firm. She is a leading authority on the lifestyles and consumer behaviors of kids, teens and families around the globe, and a gifted brand builder, speaker, writer and business woman. Today, the company conducts online and in-person research for corporate giants like LEGO, Target, Nickelodeon, Netflix, Warner Bros., Aetna, Kellogg’s, Microsoft, Dick’s Sporting Goods, McDonald’s and Disney. Tyree is also a contributor to Advertising Age, Kidscreen, Brandweek, Forbes and the Los Angeles Times, and her research on Gen Z, Millennials and parents has been profiled on ABC’s World News Tonight and in several books. Patricia Gonzalez, M.A. currently serves as the first Director of Inclusion & Diversity and adjunct professor at Emory & Henry College (E&H). Most recently, Patricia enrolled as a Doctoral candidate at the University of Southern California (USC), where she is working on her Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership Change. Her ultimate goal is to become a president of a college. Patricia was raised in Guadalajara, Mexico, and moved to South Central Los Angeles at the age of eight. She is a child of immigrant parents, one of eleven children, and the first in her family to graduate from college. Patricia has empowered many to unleash their full potential and her passion truly lies in making sure higher education is accessible for all students. Megan Atkinson Hamilton is the founder and creator of Barter Theatre's award-winning Project REAL that collaborates with local schools, non-profits, government services, and lock down facilities using theatre tools to teach not only academic curriculum, but also social skills through the lens of the human experience. She has created a Masters of Art and Graduate Certificate in Applied Theatre/REAL Pedagogy at East Tennessee State University. Megan was invited to speak on how REAL addresses education and social change at the International Academic Forum in England in the summer of 2016. Barter’s Business Training Solutions is Megan’s most recent creation in where she works with businesses/corporations using theatre tools to enhance the interpersonal skills (communication, creativity, collaboration, and problem solving) needed to survive and thrive in the 21st century work place. With specialized experience and wisdom to share, each session promises take-aways that directly address the challenges and potentials of professional women. Key take-aways include: • Learn the value of being smart, brave and creating your own professional “brand” Women will leave inspired and ready to “woman up” to the challenges that await them in the business world. • Learn to close the confidence gap by identifying how your salient and non-salient identities reflect how one interacts with society and how people interact with one’s identities in a negative and positive way. • To adopt a “Yes and…” mentality to create a productive, collaborative work environment, build better relationships, cultivate presence and mindfulness to be the best version you can be in the work place and at home. The workshop will include a light breakfast and lunch. Attendees of EMERGE Women’s Professional Development Workshop can obtain .4 Continuing Education Unit credit by Northeast State Community College.
