ETSU to offer ‘ABCs of Advocacy’ at Downtown Kingsport Center JOHNSON CITY — East Tennessee State University’s Office of Professional Development will offer a two-day “ABCs of Advocacy” training session on Monday and Tuesday, July 18-19, at the ETSU Downtown Kingsport Center at 300 Clinchfield St. The course is designed to teach advocates how to provide competent, effective crisis intervention services to victims and survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. The instructor will be Heather Herrman, a program specialist with the Tennessee Coalition to End Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. The coalition is a leading voice for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Tennessee. Established in 1983 as a non-profit agency, the coalition is a statewide network of domestic violence programs, rape crisis centers, allied programs and individuals working together to end such violence in the state. Advocating for laws that protect victims of rape and abuse, the organization trains police officers, judges and frontline workers in providing life-saving services to victims as well as partnering with communities to prevent and end violence. The course fee is $49, with group rates available. The fee includes course materials. To register, go to http://etsuaw.etsu.edu and click on “currently scheduled courses” or call 800-222-3878.
