On March 18 - 19, the First Presbyterian Church of Kingsport, located at 100 West Church Circle, will hold several events to commemorate the founding of the church 100 years ago, coinciding with the birth of the city of Kingsport. A church and a city, First Presbyterian and Kingsport, were founded the same year, 1917, within a few days of each other. Both were the dream of J. Fred Johnson, a devout Presbyterian, a civic leader with foresight and integrity and an astute businessman who carried the gospel in his heart and industrial development in his keen mind.
