Description
Before they were a couple, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr. were the closest of friends. The pair sang together with The Fifth Dimension for several years before getting married. McCoo and Davis left The Fifth Dimension in 1975 with hopes of pursuing solo projects. By 1976, the song 'You Don't Have To Be A Star' offered Marilyn and Billy an opportunity to launch a new career as a musical duo. The song skyrocketed to number one on the charts in 1976, staying on the Top 40 for 18 weeks. McCoo and Davis received a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Group or Duo. The following year, the couple hosted their own CBS television show. Married since 1969, the couple attributes the longevity of their relationship to their faith. Aside from making music together, the couple has co-authored a biographical memoir entitled 'Up, Up, And Away'.
