KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Zak’s Fine Furniture announced today it will open a store in Kingsport.

Zak’s Attic Discount Furniture Outlet will be located in the former Goody’s clothing store in the Green Acres Shopping Center on Eastman Road.

The Kingsport Chamber of Commerce will host a grand opening ceremony Friday, August 31 at 11 a.m.

A $1 million investment, the new 30,000 square-foot store will offer brand name furniture and bedding at discount prices. The store will employ 20 people.

Zak’s Attic Discount Furniture Outlet will feature manufacturer close-outs and discontinued items, floor model samples, factory direct volume purchasing and manufacturer overstock items, offering savings of 30 to 60 percent on furniture and mattress sets.

“I would like to stress it is not a promotional furniture store,” Bowman commented. “In other words, we aren’t selling cheap furniture for cheap prices. We are selling quality furniture from brands that most people have come to know and trust at promotional furniture pricing.”

Zak’s Attic Discount Furniture Outlet is more of a warehouse and clearance center type concept than a full service furniture store like the main store.

“This location will differ from our main store in several ways,” Bowman added. “Zak’s Attic does not offer special orders or custom orders like our main store. All items in Zak’s Attic will come with a manufacturer’s warranty, which is usually one year, but does not come with an added Zak’s warranty like our main store. By doing these things, Zak’s Attic will be able to offer the lowest pricing on furniture and bedding that can be found anywhere in the Southeast region.”

“We’ve known for some time that furniture and home furnishings represent a substantial retail opportunity in Kingsport,” said Jeff Fleming, Kingsport assistant city manager for development. “Our research shows that we only capture 60 percent of our market potential in that category, so our staff has been working for some time to bring attention to that opportunity.”

Zak’s Attic Discount Furniture Outlet will be open Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
