Kingsport City Schools (K-14)

In 2000, Kingsport became the first city in the state and perhaps the nation to institute a K-14 educational system. "Educate and Grow" provides two years of Free tuition to Northeast State Technical Community College (NSTCC). Graduating seniors, whose parents have been residents of Kingsport for one year, are eligible for the free tuition. During its first year of implementation, almost one-quarter of graduating seniors took advantage of this free tuition program.

The city school system consists of 10 schools: seven elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school (Dobyns Bennett) that are all accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The system has also received the Governor's A+ award each year it has been offered. In 1996, Money Magazine ranked Kingsport City Schools as one of the top 10 school districts in the United States which offered academic excellence in an area with reasonably priced housing.

At Kingsport City Schools, administrators, parents, community leaders, faculty, and staff work together to form a community dedicated to providing excellence in education. Last year, the faculty and staff of Kingsport City Schools completed 12,413 hours of training in staff development programs.

Education is a priority for the residents of Kingsport. Together the community and the Kingsport city schools are providing a positive learning environment to encourage children to learn with the highest standards. This partnership of caring individuals is helping the Kingsport community reach its goal of continued excellence in education.
