Symphony of the Mountains Joined by Area Choirs To Fill The Hall
Kingsport, TN – The 2017-2018 Season Finale of Symphony of the Mountains, “Twist of Faith”, takes place on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 7:30pm at the Toy F. Reid Eastman Employee Center in Kingsport, TN.
Spend an evening of inspiration as we refill weary spirits and prepare for the renewal of Spring with “Fugue a la Gigue BWV577” by J.S. Bach and arranged by Gustav Holst, Felix Mendelssohn’s “Symphony No. 5 (Reformation) and Dan Forrest’s “Requiem for the Living”.
We begin the evening with a fun, lighthearted dance fugue written as a transcription of J.S. Bach’s “Organ Fugue in G Major MWV 577”. Famed composer Gustav Holst created
Fugue a la Gigue” as an orchestration project and created a light and airy piece with dance-like qualities.

We then mark the 500th Anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation with the intense and powerful “Symphony No. 5 (Reformation)”. The music is filled with the strength of conviction while equally creating a beautifully melodic presentation of a key point of the Protestant Reformation; the Augsburg Confessions. Mendelssohn cleverly uses different musical styles to represent the Catholics and the Lutherans.
Symphony of the Mountains will also be joined by Voices of the Mountains, ETSU Chorale, Milligan College Concert Choir, and the Highlands Youth Ensemble to perform “Requiem for the Living”. At their core, requiems are prayers for rest typically reserved for funerals. “Requiem for the Living”, however, creates a twist on the traditional form as its musical narrative is just as relevant for the living and their daily struggles. This ethereal piece used modern-day inspirations to create a contemporary version of the traditional prayers.
Concert tickets are $30 and children/students are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased by calling our Box Office at (423) 392-8423 or visiting our website at SymphonyoftheMountains.org. Concert tickets will be available at the door the evening of the concert.
