Kingsport City Schools (K-14) In 2000, Kingsport became the first city in the state, and perhaps the nation, to institute a K-14 educational system. "Educate and Grow" provides two years of FREE tuition to Northeast State Community College (NESCC). Graduating seniors, whose parents have been residents of Kingsport for one year, are eligible for the free tuition. During its first year of implementation, almost one-quarter of the graduating seniors took advantage of this free tuition program. The city school system consists of 12 school facilities that are learning-centered campuses featuring innovative, state-of-the-art technology and well-maintained grounds. Kingsport City Schools is considered one of the top school systems in Tennessee and the nation. Kingsport City Schools features 7 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 1 high school (Dobyns-Bennett), along with an alternative education facility and an early childhood learning center. The system has also received the Governor's A+ Award for community commitment to excellence in education. In 1996, Money Magazine ranked Kingsport City Schools as one of the top 10 school districts in the United States which offered academic excellence in an area with reasonably priced housing. At Kingsport City Schools, administrators, parents, community leaders, faculty and staff work together to form a community dedicated to providing excellence in education. Dobyns-Bennett is the only school in the Greater Tri-Cities TN/VA region to make Newsweek Magazine's list of America's best public high schools. Education is a priority for the residents of Kingsport. Together the
community and the Kingsport city schools are providing a positive learning
environment to encourage children to learn with the highest standards.
