Crime Rate The Kingsport Police Department cleared 47.2% of violent crimes and 17.7% of property crimes reported in 2004 to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The national average clearance for violent crimes was 46.3% and 16.5% for property crimes. Preliminary figures submitted for 2005 show violent crime clearance at 49% and property crime 22%, both above the 2004 national averages. The Department had a clearance rate of 31.4% in 2005 of the 22 offense categories to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. State average clearance rate information was not available at the time the 2005 annual report was published. The police department answered 44,595 calls for service in 2005, an increase of 1,589 calls from the previous year.
